Most Anticipated January 2019 Releases

I can hardly believe it's already 2019 tomorrow! 2018 flew by in a lot of ways and brought so many big changes to my life. But I'm not letting go of my blog yet, especially because it's the best way to blather to the universe about all the books I'm excited for. My friends and family love me, but there's only so much they can take of that, lol. January and February have a LOT of great-sounding titles, so here's hoping most of these anticipated books will be hits!

Waiting For

39855063
1. Black Enough by various authors (1/8/19)
This has promise to be one of the best anthologies this year.

30340865
2. Our Year of Maybe by Rachel Lynn Solomon (1/15/19)
I really like friendship stories.

39893545
3. The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson (1/22/19)
It's the sequel to one of my favorite titles of 2018, so obviously I needed this one, like, yesterday.

39725859
4. All Is Fair by Dee Garretson (1/22/19)
Most of 2019's historical fiction titles are the standard WWI/WWII fare, but I still want to read them all.

39804936
5. King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo (1/29/19)
Nikolai was always my favorite part of the Shadow and Bone trilogy.

39983507
6. Spin by Lamar Giles (1/29/19)
I've enjoyed Lamar's past books, and I got to meet him at a book fest last fall. He was super cool and engaging, and I'm definitely interested in his latest title.

Already Read - You Should, Too!

39280480
1. Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills (1/15/19)
Asdfghjkl.
Emma Mills is an auto-buy author for me at this point. She writes such effortless contemporary stories.

35105833
2. The Girl King by Mimi Yu (1/8/19)
A refreshing addition to YA fantasy.

Rewind & Review #125

~Had my last week of work before the holidays. I've been home, relaxing, since last weekend, and I'll head back to the city in a couple days.
~Once I was home, my family and I went to see Mary Poppins Returns.
~I edited my spreadsheet for the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge a little, and removed a bunch of books because it wasn't clear if Rory had read them or not. While this cut how many I'll have to read, I unfortunately had to remove a bunch I'd already read. So now the challenge is down to 146 books, which I've read 26 of; that equals 18%. I've definitely gotta get a move on with this challenge.
~I did my annual bookshelf cull, where I pull the books I don't want anymore and/or probably won't ever reread. I think my stack is a bit smaller this year than in the past, which might be a good thing? Maybe I'm getting better at buying books I truly want.

Random Friday: Favorite Movies of 2018

Want to participate in Random Fridays? Just do the following:
  • Include the above image in your post and link back to my blog.
  • Blog about this week's topic (or a variant of it).
  • Add the link to your Random Friday post at the bottom of this one.

I've actually seen a lot of movies this year! (Enough that not every single movie I saw was a favorite, haha.) This summer had some great releases, and I was right by an AMC so I could do $5 Tuesdays any time I wanted.

Black Panther film poster.jpg
1. Black Panther
Listen, I literally saw it three times, and I hyped it up so much that my MOM wanted to see it, and she doesn't like superhero or sci-fi movies.

A large crowd of men and women standing on a wooden pier.
2. Mamma Mia 2
Despite some plot holes, this one was a delight. I'm hoping it'll be better in a home theater since there were some attendees at the showing I went to that kind of ruined it for me.

3. Incredibles II
(More like fourteen years, but my point stays the same.)

OceansEightPoster.jpeg
4. Ocean's 8
Such rollicking fun.

Crazy Rich Asians poster.png
5. Crazy Rich Asians
What a pleasant surprise! I really didn't expect to cry during the wedding scene, lol.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before poster.jpg
6. To All the Boys I've Loved Before
Such a lovely adaptation. It's always going to drive me crazy that they moved the setting from Virginia to Oregon for no apparent reason, but the actors are all great.

The Hate U Give poster.png
7. The Hate U Give
I saw it three times in theaters, and I cried so hard, y'all.

8. Mary Poppins Returns
Quite delightful, although there were a few moments that didn't feel quite in-character for Mary (book or original movie version).

What were your faves of 2018? If you haven't seen those on my list yet, I highly recommend them!

Looking Back on My Eighteen 2018 Reads

Although I just had that post a few weeks ago about the success of my yearly lists, it's now time for the proper wrap-up of my Eighteen (Fifty-Four, really, lol) 2018 Reads.

Now to start thinking about my Nineteen 2019 Reads. :)
