Time to celebrate!
Five years ago, I wrote my very first blog post. (I wouldn't recommend going and reading it. Or anything from 2011/2012. It's all embarrassingly bad.) Book blogging has been one of the best things in my life these past five years, and it's seen me through so many changes - graduation, two years of college, a move across the country, new friends, changing my minor, etc.
I've really only celebrated my blogoversary twice, but this year, I decided to do something a little different. I'm going to share my fifteen(ish) favorite Awkwordly Emma posts, and then, of course, there'll be a giveaway. I assume most of y'all will skip down to that, but if you don't, you should check out what posts have been my favorite over the last couple years! They're in no particular order but without further ado...
Emma's Favorite Blog Posts
In which I shared my face (for the first time?) and my voice and took y'all on a tour of my then-local Barnes & Noble.
ALL THE FEMALE SUPERHEROES.
This post was so fun to do that it inspired a new series of mine called Professor Emma Teaches, in which I talk about what YA titles I'd teach in fictional classes.
Still one of my favorite reviews I've written, mainly because of the way I incorporated tweets and also for the pain this book caused me.
Both recipes inspired by Jenny Han's To All the Boys I've Loved Before series. I can't wait to see what book three inspires me to bake!
I've conducted a number of interviews over the years, but for some reason, the one with Heidi holds a special place in my heart.
This post was so important to me that I followed it up with a letter to college sophomores yesterday.
My tribute to fellow Gilmore Girls fans.
9. Merry Christmas to the Book Characters series
I thought this would be a one-time post, but it's turned into an annual event that I look forward to.
10. A Bookish Swiftie Recommends series
As a huge Taylor Swift fan, I love recommending books for fellow fans. I've also done a couple book tags involving her, but this series remains my favorite since the categories were all set by me.
The post that started it all. This was an innocent post in February 2014, but I realized I couldn't do just fifteen. So it turned into a multi-part series that led to...
which led to...
This has become a big thing for me. I don't think these posts get much attention, but I love them anyways. Besides, even one viewer who learns about a new book means I've done my job. And I can't wait to keep doing these series in future years!
I don't have many bookish causes, but one of them is the fight for guys to read so-called "girly" YA books. Here's the link to all the posts in the series, if you're interested!
The YA book nerd version of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
16-17. Two of my posts for The Odyssey Online, while not originally shared here, are some of my strongest pieces of writing, in my opinion.

HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY! *throws confetti and produces chocolate cupcakes with strawberry filling from somewhere*
ReplyDeleteI'm curious: how long do you think you'll be able to keep up the "XX books for 20XX" posts up? I mean, you could probably manage into the 202-'s, but what about the 203-'s? Or even beyond that?
Also, yay, giveaway! Though it'll be a tiny bit awkward if I win, as I'll be away with no internet at its end. Another email account I'll have to get my parents to check, I guess.

DeleteOh dear, I have no idea! I mean, it's all dependent on how long I keep blogging, so... I think 2020 might have to be the last year because, after that, doing more than three posts would start to get overwhelming fast when I went to read and do a wrap-up post for all of those books.
Wow 5 years!! Happy Blogoversary!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Blogoversary!!!!!!! It's awesome that you've been blogging for five years, here's to many more! :)
