Bookish happenings this week! Nothing big, but I've read some good books. We had a couple really nice days, weather-wise, but it's still been pretty cold. I went to a book sale yesterday, hoping to find some good deals, but most of their YA books were already gone (I guess the sale had happened Thursday and Friday, too). To make up for that, my mom took me to Half Price Books and I got three YA novels that you'll see below. Two are ones I loved and one is a completely new read, so I hope I like it! I also got a review request from an author, and it's the first I'll be accepting. She has two book debuting this summer, and they sound really cool.

How was Dangerous? Also, the Unhinged cover is creepy; what's it about?
ReplyDeleteEh, so-so. Wasn't what I was expecting entirely.
DeleteIt's the sequel to Splintered; they're set in Wonderland.
I'm curious about Landry Park, but I've heard that it's historical fiction so I'm a little weary of it too since historical fiction and I don't really get along, haha. I'm loving the Unhinged cover :)
ReplyDeleteIt's Downton Abbey meets The Selection, and I'm pretty sure it's futuristic!
DeleteI love it, too! And its binding underneath is really cool, too.
Everyone seems to really like Unhinged, but I can not seem to get passed the cover. I almost never judge a book by it's cover but I just cannot get past this one.
ReplyDeleteReally? I like it. I love Splintered's cover, too. They're perfect for Wonderland.
DeleteI must say, I was slightly disappointed with Dangerous. It felt much different from Shannon's other books. It was definitely a YA book, and I didn't really like the part with Wilder in the lair. It was Shannon Hale, so I can't really complain.

All of her other books have been YA, so that didn't bother me. But it felt like she'd pitched this as a duology or trilogy, and Bloomsbury had only bought a standalone so she had to jam everything into one book. I'm also not into aliens. The beginning part (pre-camp and the camp section) seemed too rushed. Some statements were a bit too juvenile and awkward, and the romance threw me off.
DeleteAlso, how old was Maisie? In the end she's a junior but is that just because she's smart? I went through most of the book thinking she was thirteen or fourteen.

I'm not really the person to ask about that.
DeleteI was just wondering if it was mentioned and I missed it. I read really quickly and have a tendency to miss a lot.

I love Splintered and I really want to read Unhinged! I also loved Wicked Little Secrets. Any books you can prescribe so I can read and blog about them? Emma have you read The Academy by C L Stone? It's really good.
ReplyDeleteI have not read The Academy.
DeleteAs for other books you should read, I recommend checking out the Favorite Books tab. Those are all of the books I highly recommend. You can also check out my past reviews.
